We will be reading Two Lands, One Heart in our Trophies reader. I am unsure if we will have the test on Fri due to the possibility of snow again. We have been spending a great deal of time on writing personal narratives. This (and the snow days) has interrupted our Friday testing schedule.

HW week of Jan 24
Grade 4: Please have the children read a chapter a night in Hachiko Waits and summarize.
I will send home the writing assignment on A Day At An Amusement Park to rewrite the final copy on white paper. Please read the rough draft with them and make suggestions. This is just like the HW assignment for Snow Day. Please reread that post for more instructions. Due Friday.
Grade 5: Please read 20-30 minutes per night and have bookmark signed. Some writing assignments for NIE may be coming home for those who would like to type them.
Study Is: No new assignments. Please make sure they catch up this week.

Homework week of Jan 18
Grade 4: I will send home an MCAS question about MLK tomorrow. Please have your child complete it independently and then read it with an adult. Tues: read MLK paper and do the multiple choice, Wed: read again and complete the OR open response question. Please go over the MC with them and read what they write for the OR. They need to practice putting lots of details in their writing. I will not collect them till Thursday.

HW for grade 5
We will be starting a new book Walk Two Moons by Sharon Screech. Please have your child read 20-30 minutes a day M-Th. I will be sending home a bookmark that you can initial daily to let me know your child did the nightly reading. They do not have to summarize. I will also start sending home NIE writing assignments. Writing HW grade 4
Homework grade 4 Jan 10 - 14 (we will not have any reading HW this week)
Monday and Tuesday:
Share and discuss your writing folder with a parent
Rewrite your rough draft (yellow paper) on Snow Day onto white paper
Fix spelling and capitalization mistakes
Add more details/ skills (use purple paper)
Add your small moment about sledding that you wrote on another piece of yellow paper (this should go in at about paragraph 3)
Add your small moment about a snowball fight to your final copy (around paragraph 5 or 6)
Make sure you skip a line and indent every paragraph
Final copy should be 2 pgs. minimum (you can write on the back)
Reread the FINAL copy to a parent
Pass in the folder and the white paper to Mrs. Kennedy on WED.

Grade 4: We will be finishing Sarah Plain and Tall for HW this week. We read the first 3 chapters in school. Please have your child read a chapter or two each night and summarize. They should finish the whole book (chapter 9) by Thurs. night. I will check HW on Fri.

Grade 5: Poster on Hurricanes/text features (See previous post for picture) is due on Tues. I will be sending home Greek and Latin roots flashcards to study (quiz on Fri). Focus on the words that are more commonly used. Those are the ones on the quiz.
