Home Sweet Home & change of departure time

Folks,
The camera came home with Mrs. Zukas yesterday.  Sorry to disappoint.

The class will eat lunch at 11:00 and then depart.  The children are leaving Nature's Classroom in Charlton MA @ 11:45.  Depending on traffic we are expecting them back at the park on Great Woods Road between 1:15 -2:00.  Please be sure that someone is there to meet them.  They will need a shower and lots of rest over the week-end!

I know that they still have another night..... but I know I speak for all of the chaperons  when I say the 5th graders went beyond our expectations in terms of behavior and maturity.  It was a huge responsibility and they handled it exceptionally well.  I am extremely proud of them.  I hope I have not jinxed us!  Enjoy the long week-end.

So today we said good bye and thank you to Mrs. Zukas and hello to Mrs. LoGiudice.  Mrs. Zukas told me that the kids have been amazing and last night was very smooth.  Tonight is the Under Ground Railroad experience.  I will keep you posted as I talk to Mrs. Lo.

Tuesday continued

Some of the students, far braver than me, opted to dissect sharks.  Yes....sharks.
Others participated in magic math.

While some built and tested roller coasters other built dependable trays.

Dinner was a delicious turkey dinner served by Charlize. The ORT report and dance was given by Skyler and Charlize.

And finally the everyone, except Wendi, changed in warm, water proof clothes to go for a night time adventure in the woods to see darkness.  At this point, I checked out!

Tuesday

I just arrived in from my long day at Nature’s Classroom.  The sun and the rain took turns all day.  It seemed like we had an hour of one then the other.  It didn’t stop any of the learning or excitement.  The children are non-stop during the day and into the evening.  There are no tears and everyone is having fun.  I am going to post pictures and do my best to give a descriptive caption.

For lunch we had hot dogs and our watron was Jeremy.  He did a fabulous job!  After lunch Katryn and Kylie did the ORT report.  Jesse and Wendi approve of the lunch!

Soon after the field groups began.  Jack and Carter designed and built an astronaut safe transport vehicle.  They tested it by seeing if it could carry an egg off when projected off the roof.  They watched from below.

In between many kids opt for a basketball game.

They gather daily on the stairs to get their next assignment.

More to follow........

More from Day 1

From Mrs. Zukas:

Yesterday, the kids got their field group assignments where they were merged with students from Shoemaker. They chose a class to attend some of which included dissecting eyeballs or sharks. Lunch and dinner were delicious. At lunch our ORT was 19 and at dinner it was only 13! This is left over food.

The students all have an opportunity to earn IALAC beads.  IALAC is anything that fits the acronym for ex: I am  loving and caring, individuals acting like a community, etc. They earn them by being kind or helpful, and then they can give them to someone else.   Some of our children earned them on day 1!

We had a nighttime sing along and then their behavior in the dorms was excellent.

Night Night......

Well Day 1 is nearly over and I might add a huge success!  Lights out at 9:45.  Let us hope they are all tired and sleep through the night.  Surely they have to be exhausted!  Dinner was chicken, broccoli and ziti and apparently quite delicious!  Judging by the smiles, we have some happy children!    I am looking forward to seeing them in the am.
