Grade 4: A worksheet will go home each night this week for the 4th graders.
Grade 5: A reading log with directions went home today. The log needs to be signed nightly by an adult.

HW Feb 10-14

Grade 4: Monday the students will have a map to do. Tues, Wed, and Thurs. I will be sending home How I Survived The Titanic. They will need to read a chapter or two a night and place a sticker on the plot profile in their ELA notebook. I will assign which chapter each day because I do not know how far we will get.  The sticker should be placed high if the chapter had lots of suspense or lower if the chapter was not suspenseful. Please have them bring this book back and forth to school because we will be reading it in school as well. I hope to finish this book before vacation.

Grade 5: Monday: study for the spelling bee on Tues. Tues, Wed, and Thurs decorate the outside and inside of Bud's suitcase with a variety of materials. I will be sending some home. Be as creative as you would like.

Basketball raffle is on Wed. School store is on Thursday. Also, a meeting for Student Council will be on Wed. after school 2:15-2:45pm.

HW Feb 3-6

Grade 4: We will be doing another Patricia Polacco book for Mon and Tues. Wed and Thurs I will have the 4th graders rewrite A Great Day. Also, Friday we will have a S.S. quiz on the Southeast states and capitals. Flashcards are in their binders.

Grade 5: Please continue on your biography report which is due on Friday. We will be having a spelling bee a week from Tuesday. I will send the list home. Please have your child study and practice with these words.

Homework January 27-30

Grade 4: Monday and Tuesday: We have been reading and analyzing  Patricia Polacco books in class to help us become stronger writers. For homework read a Patricia Polacco book of your choice and complete worksheet: Write a summary/ give examples of writing skills you notice Patricia uses. Wednesday and Thursday replicate above assignment with a different P.P. book.

Grade 5: Your child will choose a biography of a famous person on Monday. Please read the biography, complete the brainstorm, write a one page (3 or 4 paragraph) report on your famous person and do a cover. (This is very similar to the homework reports done in 4th grade, but the book is much longer.)This assignment will not be due until February 7 (2 weeks)

The Walking Classroom kits arrived!

Thanks to generous donations from Safe Routes, The Walking Classroom,  and our own PTO the fifth grade was able to purchase a class set of Walking Classroom  kits from: thewalkingclassroom.org .Each kit comes preloaded with lots of lessons on subjects such as: Conflict in writing, Women of the Civil War, Albert Einstein, and many more. We walk, listen and learn!

We test drove our kits in the gym today due to the 16 degree temperatures outside. Ask your child about The Walking Classroom! Mrs. Kennedy

HW January 21 to 23

Grade 4: I will send home a rough draft to be copied into a final copy. We have been working hard on writing  small moments about  sledding and having a snowball fight. These small moments need to be joined together into one completed paper.

Grade 5: A project on the 13 colonies will be going home. It is due Friday. We will also have a test on the 13 colonies (map) on Friday.
